The Worlds End trailer analysis

The Worlds End is a upcoming new film from Simon Pegg and the team who created Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. This is the third and final film from the trio of films Pegg and Frost have been talking about. The film is directed by Edgar Wright and in the trailer we can see that the main story line is that old friends from school have come back too there old town which they used to live (Newton Haven)for a pub crawl. 12 pubs, 12 pints and the final pub being the worlds end. However since they have been away they the town has changed and people have become robots of somewhat. These "robots" are the only things standing in their way now from completing the golden mile.

The trailer has many key things within it. There are many close ups of the characters in the trailer. This is so that the audience can establish who are the main characters and what the plot is going to be about. The second thing we noticed  about the trailer is that all of the quick cuts between frames there is quick action within the trailer. This allows the audience to feel the intensity of the action within the film. This might entice the audience to come and watch the film alone. Another is the use of the names of previous films they have created. This allows the audience to remember back  to these previous films and remember how good they where. They only do this as mentioning previous films that are hits bring in a large audience normally. A lot of mid shots and two shots are used to show the relationship between characters. This establishes who are friends with who and who are good and bad. The camera work in the trailer is smart as they are giving you as the audience everything they can without blowing the story. This also makes the audience want more. It is very clear through the clothing that each character wear when they are in the car how they have panned out in life. Four of them are in suits and look like they are running good lives however Pegg is in a leather jacket and looks very scruffy. This shows to me that his life hasn't really advanced from the school days.

When we go through to when the aliens or robots start coming out there are a lot of quick cuts suggesting the danger that they are about to get involved with however throughout we can see little puns thrown in to show that it is still a comedy through Pegg falling over the hedge and the ink of their hands. There are also a few high angle shots to display how the humans are compared to the aliens/robots in this film. The angle is suggesting that they are weaker than them. Through all of the fighting and killing the main storyline is plugged away at through the portrayal of drinking beer and getting through the pub crawl.

The cinematography used in this trailer is trying to show that the character that Pegg is playing is trying to bring back the past and try and make it the same as it was. He is shown as a lonely character that has a drinking problem. It also shows that Pegg is at fault for most of the troubles that they get into within the trailer.

Within the trailer there are also four soundtracks. Each soundtrack matched the intensity of the action in the trailer. This is a smart use of soundtrack picking and sound matching. This allows the audience to really get into it and that they can feel the intensity of the parts through the music as well as the action on screen makes the trailer better.

Looking at the trailer it has convinced me to watch the films itself. It is also the use of actors names and use of previous films I have found most effective in enticing me in to watch this film. However other people may not care about the previous films or the main actors within the film. They might look at storyline, special effects and other pieces which a film must have.
