Saw trailer analysis

The conventions of the Saw trailer is that we have distinguished it as a horror film. The audience will know this because of the type of content the trailer has in it and also the type of cuts that are used within the trailer. The quick cuts are very useful and mostly distinguish this as a horror film. The lighting you could also say was a give away as the lighting is dim and the setting is dark and dirty.

The structure of the trailer is not what you normally see in a horror trailer as there is a lot of content in the trailer that is from the film. This is done as it was a new IP when it came out it had to entice the audience to come and see the film. So they had to give the audience the main plot in the film and who are the main characters therefore the audience can go over this and understand what it is about.

The edits are like I explained in the first paragraph. The quick cuts make the trailer and they allow the audience to distinguish this trailer as a horror film. The quick cuts create suspense and tension in the audience. They also show the production name of the company who created the film however they get this off quickly as they are not a well known company and this being their first film the name will not sell the film for them. Fades are also used during it as the effect of this makes the story harder to follow and gives the audience the feeling of tension also.

The sound used in the trailer supports it really as the load bangs and the creepy tune just add to the suspense and anxiety in the trailer itself and the audience.

The film is aimed at the more mature teenagers going onto adults as they are into this stuff and being the 18 rating it is it sets the bar what audience they want/ aiming for in this case.
