The Wolverine trailer analysis

The Wolverine is the latest instalment into the Wolverine series if you put it that way. The previous films include the X Men Films and X Men Origins Wolverine. It is one of the biggest films out this year and there is a lot of hype for the film. This is shown in the trailer with a lot of detail being put in without giving the way too much. The film is based on The Wolverine novel by Chris Claremont. The film is planned to be released on the 24th July 2013 in the UK.
The Wolverine’s main actor/protagonist Hugh Jackman playing Logan/Wolverine. He is the only big name actor in the film with other actors being not so big Like Tao Okamoto playing Mariko Yashida and Sventlana Khodchenkova as Viper. The studios who created the film include Marvel Entertainment and is distributed by 20th Century Fox. The film is directed by James Mangold and it’s produced by Lauren Shuler Donner and Hugh Jackman himself. The budget for the film is to be in the excess of $100 million.
When Transit got the rights to create the trailer for The Wolverine he was given to main requirements to show in it. To show the emotional aspect of Wolverine and to tease the audience with the possible enemy that he has to fight against. Throughout the trailer this is shown as constant reminders of his wife and this disturbs him and makes him look weak. Also the tease of the enemy is shown when a female starts peeling her face off and it is disguising the enemy.
What we know is that Wolverine has had a few years where he hasn’t done much however an employer of a person he saved has found him and offered him the chance to be mortal. After turning mortal the film will show how he tries to live with being mortal and how he is coping. The enemy he is facing is the group called the Silver Samurai. This group will try to kill the wolverine during the film I'm guessing. The film was set in different places including New South Wales in Australia, Tokyo in Japan and Hiroshima in Japan.
In the film trailer there are a lot of cuts. I think there are 116 cuts in the trailer which is a lot of cuts compared to past trailers however they use this as a method of creating tension and leave the audience wanting more when it comes to the quick cuts. The quick cuts are there when the main action starts and this gives the audience an idea of the intensity of the film and what it is going to be like. The use of the phrases in between the action “When he is at his most vulnerable, is when he is at his most dangerous”. This adds an extra feel to the film that it is going to be action packed and dangerous for the Wolverine this will then excite the audience to go and watch the film.
The sound during the trailer changes several times. I believe there are three or four soundtracks during the trailer. These tracks differentiate depending on the situation of the action in the trailer. During the scene when Logan is shot the music is not silent but at a very low volume. This gives the audience the feel of what he is feeling and what the intensity of that particular bit is like in the trailer. Also the big bangs and sound effects enhance the feeling of the film as they make the audience here what is happening and then the images on the screen will hopefully suffice to why it is happening.
The cinematography in the trailer used is to try and show how Wolverine has lived his life and trying to show the emotional side of him. The trailer uses camera angles also to make him look weaker and dizzy with tilted cameras and pull focus to make the picture look fuzzy in certain areas in the trailer such as the bit when he is shot by the guard at a funeral it looks like. High camera angles are also used to make him look weak and powerless as he becomes mortal.
