Below you can see the two Empire magazines I have bought. The two magazines are recent and are from different months. I will now analyse them describing why Empire have put certain things in certain places on their front cover.
Empire (wolverine edition)
The wolverine edition of Empire is a collectors edition. This editions masthead is done in Chinese. This tells the audience where the film is set this time round. In the bottom left corner you can see the wolverine title telling you if you didn't tell by the picture what film it was. The barcode is in the bottom left corner . This is on all magazines as you scan and the price of the magazine will appear. Then we have the price, website and month of magazine. All magazines have this also to show the audience how much, what edition it is and the website of the magazine. Then finally we come too the main image. It is a big bold image of wolverine with his blades out of his knuckles and with a samurai sword. This gives you the reason for thinking that the film is set in china. This also may indicate that Logan has an extra hand this time round as the sword implies there is another person there helping him. Also wolverine/Logan is in harsh/dark lighting. This portrays him as an angry looking character on the front of the magazine.
Empire (spider-man edition)
The second magazine that I am analysing is another Empire magazine but this is a bit more up to date issue from September 2013. As you can see the main masthead is there with Empire following there own design as usual and normal colour as it is always red. This time however the month of issue and cost are above the M instead of below. This is one of the things that move through each issue of empire. The main image is spider- man as he is the main focus of this months issue as the new spider man film release date has just been released. This is make sure the audience now about the main news and also as spider man is a massive franchise many people will want to know about this. In the bottom right we have the barcode which is on all magazines and follows the norm on where it should be. We have heading by the side of the main image and other little images at the side. These either compliment and relate to the main image itself or they are focusing on other important things that empire believe that their audience should know about.
