As you can see I have several film posters that I can look at and analyse. I have picked these up from a cinema and have taken pictures of them so I can analyse why they have done certain things within the poster.
Monsters University (poster 1)
The first Monsters University poster you can see is of all of the characters within the Monsters University film. As you can see Mike and Sully are placed at the front of the group as they are the main characters in the film as this is the follow up from Monsters Inc. The MU signs and flags are placed around the poster as they are symbolising the film in an emblem. The people who see this may then try and copy this and from there the viral advertising of the emblem may start to spread. Having all of the characters shown on the posters will attract the target audience. Even though the film is for everyone it is a kids film first and for most and kids like seeing all of the characters in one place. This is son they know what to expect from the film and with this they can recognise the monsters characters in shops. Then they can buy the characters and the poster then has served another purpose. The advertisement of the Monsters University toys. The university in the background also show you what the film will be like and it gives you sneak peak insight to what to expect again. The colours are very bright so the mood within the poster is happy even though a couple of the monsters may not show it on the poster. The ad or angry looking ones look like the bad monsters looking at the connotations.
Pacific Rim (poster 1)
The first Pacific Rim poster is showing the big robot fighting the monster of some sort on a bridge. The posters shows the audience the scale of the fight and the size of the characters by pitting them by and fighting on the bridge. Also the use of sea shows how tall they are as they are well above the sea level. The use of colours in this poster gives you a lot. The connotations of the monsters colours show dark and evil aspects to it because it is in dark colours and the nasty looking head gives you the sense that that is the bad guy/thing within the story. The robot even the grey is generally a dark colour is portrayed in a bright light and the bright eyes give out that the robot is the good guy in this film. The slogan above the picture strengthens that argument with it saying " to fight monsters we have created monsters". This implies again that the robot is the good guy however the robots are controlled by humans as the slogan refers to "we". This gives the audience the idea. Also you can see another monster on the far left of the poster. Thus shows that there is more than one and it shows that there is going to be a bug battle and more than one to fight.
The World's End (poster 1)
The first Worlds End poster is just a sign in he middle of the page. The sign looks like a pub sign so this then implies that the story is going to be set round a pub of some sort. The term good food fine ale strengthens thus argument again. However below that it say total annihilation. This suggests that the story is about getting very drunk and possibly getting into a fight of some sort. The Worlds End name suggests that something or the story may end there. Also the background colours are very dark so there is some kind of evil within this story possibly.

Monsters University (poster 2)
The second Monsters University poster is a portrait poster of sully and mike on bunk beds. It shows that sully is on the top and mike is on the bottom. This gives the connotations that sully is a stronger and is the character with more authority in the film. Also the facial gestures on both of the characters. Sully is very happy whereas Mike looks very uncomfortable and you could say unhappy. Also the room each character has on the poster also shows who.is the more powerful or dominant out of the characters.
The World's End (poster 2)
The second Worlds End poster is a landscape poster this time. The worlds End pub sign within the first poster that I showed you however has melted and caught fire. This gives the audience the idea of the destruction that may come upon the Worlds End pub in the film. Also the faces of Nick Frost and Simon Pegg are worried so they look like they are scared or running away from something. Also the shadows and blue glue from the figures in the background indicate that they are the things that Pegg and Frost are scared of. The use of previous films/hits they have done as Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are there to attract the audience. They are there also as this film is the third film in the cornetto series that Pegg and Frost have created.
